A 24-year-old man has been jailed for 19 years and six months after being convicted of a series of violent and predatory offences against two women.
Ethan Nolan, of Bristol, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday 12 March 2026. Following a six-day trial in January, a jury found him guilty of three counts of rape, two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour (CCB), and further counts of sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching, and intentional strangulation.
The court heard that Nolan’s pattern of abuse began in 2022, when he raped a woman he was in a relationship with while she was asleep at her home in Bristol. He subsequently attempted to manipulate the victim into believing his actions were normal.
In April 2023, Nolan entered a second relationship with a woman in Surrey. During this period, his behaviour escalated into psychological and financial abuse. He restricted the victim's access to friends, controlled her clothing, and coerced her into providing bank cards and money. This psychological abuse turned physical, involving regular beatings and two further counts of rape.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Nolan was handed a lifelong restraining order to protect the victims and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Nat Stone, from Surrey Police's Sexual Offences Investigation Team, praised the victims for their bravery throughout the two-year investigation.
"Nolan is a dangerous man and his behaviour has impacted many lives. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the courage of both victims to come forward and tell Police what happened," DC Stone said. "Thanks to their bravery and support over the last two years, Nolan will now serve a significant amount of time behind bars."
Surrey Police emphasized that the case serves as evidence of the force's commitment to taking reports of domestic abuse and sexual violence seriously. They urged anyone recognizing these abusive behaviours in their own lives or the lives of friends to contact the police for support.
