I still need paying': Dealer jailed over Exeter mother’s death

A drug dealer has been jailed for two years and nine months following an investigation into the drugs-related death of a 41-year-old mother in Exeter. Reece Webb, 27, provided cocaine to Mandy Bond, who tragically overdosed and died in September 2023.

Webb, of Drum Way, Heathfield, appeared at Exeter Crown Court for sentence on Monday 20 April. He had pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

The court heard Ms Bond was located deceased at her home in Exeter shortly before 8pm on Saturday 9 September 2023. A family member tried to call Ms Bond’s phone, which was answered by Webb. He stated she owed him £80.

A short time later, the family member received a call from a different number, also from Webb. Webb informed them that Ms Bond owed him money for drugs and that he had taken her phone as payment. When informed Ms Bond had died, Webb replied: “I still need paying”.

Police Investigation

Officers traced Webb to his home. A search of the property located 26 watches believed to be from the proceeds of crime. Multiple zip lock bags with residue of a white substance were also found.

An examination of Webb’s phone showed messages consistent with him being involved in drug supply. In interview, Webb admitted being involved in supplying Class A drugs, saying he did so to fund his own cocaine habit.

Police Statement

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “This is a tragic case and another stark reminder of the dangers of illegal drugs.

“Mandy Bond was loved by all who knew her and were it not for the drugs supplied by Reece Webb, she may still be here today.

“We will continue to target those who profit from the sale of illegal substances in an effort to bring them to justice and keep our communities safe.”
