A man has been jailed following a fatal collision in Birmingham in February 2024. Mohammed Ali, 27, received a seven-year prison sentence after Hizar Hanif was killed on Soho Road.
Hizar Hanif was killed after an Audi A4 ploughed into the back of the car he was travelling in on 18 February. Mohammed Ali drove his car at speeds of up to 90mph on Soho Road. He was seen dangerously overtaking other cars before hitting the car Mr Hanif was travelling in.
Mohammed Ali also collided with another car, seriously injuring the driver. Sadly, Mr Hanif died at the scene.
Mr Hanif and his friend were preparing for his friend’s wedding the following week. They were travelling to a friend's house to collect suits when they were hit by Ali’s car. Fortunately, Mr Hanif’s friend suffered minor physical injuries but is still recovering from the loss of his best friend today.
Ali was taken to hospital where he also verbally and physically assaulted a police officer. He was arrested and later charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer.
At a court hearing last month, the 27-year-old pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court. Yesterday (Fri), he was sentenced to seven years in prison and banned from driving for four years and six months on release.
A statement from Mr Hanif's wife was read out in court: "That day my life changed forever. I lost my soulmate, my son lost his daddy, his parents lost a son and his brothers lost their big brother.
"I don't understand how one minute life was perfect, and then it wasn't. This should never have happened. I have no peace and I'm living on autopilot.
"My son didn't have enough time with his daddy and that's not ok. No child should have to experience grief so young. I am struggling to figure out how i live in a world without him beside me.
"Hizar was everything to our family. A loving husband, a devoted father, son, brother and the heart of our family. His loss is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives."
