Kai Edwards, 18, of Cooper Street in Hessle, has been sentenced to seven years behind bars following his conviction for the rape and assault of three young girls in Hull. He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Edwards appeared at Hull Crown Court today, Friday, 17 April 2026, for sentencing. He was found guilty of three counts of rape and sexual assault by penetration after a trial at Hull Crown Court concluded on Friday, 13 February 2026.
Detectives from Humberside Police first opened an investigation in April 2022. This followed reports that a girl had been raped by Edwards at a property in Hull. She disclosed that she had repeatedly been asked to engage in sexual activity and continuously said no. Later that night, she woke up to Edwards engaging in sexual intercourse with her, and he was immediately asked to leave.
Officers from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit launched an investigation. A few weeks later, they received a third-party report concerning a second young girl. This girl had disclosed she had been subjected to a non-recent rape by Edwards multiple times across their relationship.
Extensive enquiries remained ongoing. In March 2023, officers received a third report after a school raised concerns. A young girl had reported she had been sexually assaulted and raped, again naming Edwards. She disclosed he had visited her address and touched her sexually, continuing to do so as she asked him to stop. He then orally raped her further before eventually leaving the address.
Officers continued to build a case against Edwards. He was subsequently voluntarily interviewed and summonsed to court at a later date.
Detective Constable Lisa Grantham, who led the investigation, said: “This was a lengthy and complex investigation, and I would like to commend the bravery of all three girls for assisting with our enquiries as we stacked up the evidence against a sexual predator like Edwards.
“It is thanks to their courage and willingness to engage with the court proceedings that led him to be found guilty, and now serving jail time.
“We take all reports of rape, and other sexual offences, both recent and non-recent, extremely seriously and will continue to seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of such sordid individuals like Edwards.
“No matter your age or gender, or whether the offences took place yesterday or 30 years ago, we would encourage you to tell someone you trust and when you are ready, report it to the police.
“Hear from another brave sexual abuse survivor who waived her legal right to lifelong anonymity to tell her story and encourage more people to come forward and tell someone.
