A man who threatened a taxi driver with a knife before stealing his vehicle has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Jason Edgar, 40, of Papworth Everard, appeared at Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday 13 March 2026. He pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and possession of a knife in a public place following an incident that took place in November.
The court heard that just after midnight on 28 November, Edgar ordered an Uber to Riverside Road, Huntingdon. Upon the vehicle's arrival, Edgar attempted to enter the driver's seat before moving to the rear, where he held a knife to the driver's neck.
Edgar demanded the driver disable the vehicle's CCTV and ordered him to drive toward Cambourne. When the car reached Ermine Street South, Edgar instructed the driver, a man in his 40s, to pull over and stated he was stealing the vehicle. Fearing for his life, the victim handed over the keys and contacted the police after walking away.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary located Edgar in the early hours of the same morning in School Lane, Cambourne, where he was arrested.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu praised the victim's quick thinking during the ordeal.
“This was a terrifying experience for the victim who feared for his life that evening. Thanks to the victim’s quick actions and the fast response from officers, we were able to locate and arrest Edgar," DC Radulescu stated.
He added that the sentence serves as a reassurance to the public that there is "zero tolerance" for those carrying weapons or threatening violence within the community.
