A devoted son is demanding justice after his 57-year-old father was "sucker slapped" in the face by a group of teenagers while walking home from a Tesco supermarket.
The incident occurred as the victim and his wife were preparing for iftar, the traditional meal to break the fast during Ramadan. A group of four individuals reportedly squeezed between the couple before one of them struck the man hard across the face.
Despite his age, the father, a survivor of the Lebanese civil war, refused to back down and pursued the group through a local tube station. He chased the "cowardly" assailant from platform to platform before eventually losing him in the crowd.
The son revealed that no bystanders stepped in to help during the daytime assault. He expressed "pure rage" that witnesses simply continued about their business while an older man was being physically attacked.
The family believes the attack may have been targeted, noting that the victim's wife was wearing a hijab at the time. The son has insisted on filing a police report, hoping that CCTV footage from the station will help identify the "scum" responsible.
"Why slap him out of everyone else on the street?" the son questioned in a viral post. He suggested the casual nature of the slap implies the group has carried out similar "vile" attacks before without consequence.
The son has even considered hiring a private investigator to track down the group if the Met Police are unable to find them. However, community members have warned him that taking the law into his own hands could lead to his own arrest.
Observers have praised the father for standing his ground, noting that his defiant response likely stopped the teenagers from escalating their behaviour. Many argued that by fighting back, he reclaimed his dignity and refused to feel like a "vulnerable" target.
Others have urged the family to ensure the incident is logged as a potential hate crime to aid national statistics. Legal experts remind victims that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) ultimately decides whether to press charges based on police evidence.
For now, the son remains adamant about finding the culprits and ensuring they face the full weight of the law. The family is appealing for any witnesses to the "devastating" incident to come forward.
