Arnold House Shut Down After Persistent Antisocial Behaviour

House shut down

Nottinghamshire Police have taken decisive action to shut down a house in Arnold, Gedling borough, that had become a focal point for persistent loud noise and other antisocial behaviour, significantly impacting local residents.

Closure Order Secured on Bentwell Avenue Property

Officers from the Gedling Central neighbourhood policing team successfully obtained a closure order for 72 Bentwell Avenue. The property was boarded up on Thursday (23 April) after the order was granted at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court. This marks the first such order secured in Gedling borough.

The closure order will remain in effect for three months, during which time no one is permitted to enter the house. Any individual found breaching this order will be committing an offence and could face imprisonment and/or a fine.

Problems at the address included loud music, parties extending into the early hours, and other disruptive antisocial behaviour. There were also sporadic reports of drug use and a fight involving weapons in January this year.

Sergeant Alison Riley, of the Gedling Central neighbourhood policing team, stated: “It is disappointing when an address becomes a magnet for antisocial behaviour in the way this house has done. Police were repeatedly called to the address and the number of complaints meant we were determined to take action. Although the order is a first for Gedling we won’t hesitate to take action like this in future. In neighbourhood policing we always act when an address becomes such a problem for the whole community. It is also pleasing that members of the community had the confidence in their neighbourhood team to share their accounts and provide the evidence we needed to shut the property down. I hope this order now gives residents in the community some respite from these issues. It should also serve as a warning to other people about what could happen to them if they behave in this way.”

Local Area & Safety Context

Arnold, a market town and suburb located north-east of Nottingham city centre, is part of the Gedling borough. Bentwell Avenue itself is situated within the Ernehale ward and is a short walk from Arnold's local shops, amenities, and schools.

The overall crime rate in Arnold in 2026 is 52 crimes per 1,000 people, which is 32% lower than Nottinghamshire's overall rate. In the wider Gedling local authority district, the annual total crime rate is 68.2 crimes per thousand resident population, considered a low crime level compared to other areas in England and Wales. Specifically, anti-social behaviour in Gedling is reported to be below the national average. In December 2025, within the NG5 8AH postcode area of Arnold, 20 incidents of antisocial behaviour were recorded out of 128 total crimes.

To help prevent antisocial behaviour, official advice from the Metropolitan Police suggests securing homes, gardens, sheds, and vehicles, being mindful of noise, and challenging behaviour only if it is safe to do so. Residents are also encouraged to get to know their neighbours and report issues early before they escalate. Citizens Advice recommends keeping a diary of incidents, noting what happened, when, and its impact, as this evidence can be crucial for further action.

For those affected by crime or antisocial behaviour, independent support is available. Victim Support is a national charity dedicated to helping victims in England and Wales. They offer a free, confidential 24/7 Supportline on 08 08 16 89 111 and a live chat service via their website, http://www.victimsupport.org.uk. Victim Support provides specialist help to cope and recover, and their services include support for antisocial behaviour.

To report antisocial behaviour, call 101 or use the Live Chat option on our website. If you don’t report it the problems may continue - so don’t rely on someone else to report it for you. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress and someone is at immediate risk, always call 999.
