Two Children Die in Wolverhampton House Fire

April 26, 2026

West Midlands Police are investigating after two children tragically died in a fire at a house in Wolverhampton last night. Officers were called to the fire in Mason Street at around 8.30pm (Fri).

Colleagues from West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued two young children.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, nothing could be done to save them. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other children and a woman were already out of the house before emergency services arrived. They were checked over by ambulance staff but did not need hospital treatment. They were discharged at the scene.

Emergency Service Response

West Midlands Fire Service said fire crews from Bilston, West Bromwich and Bloxwich Fire Stations attended. Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property. After rescuing two young children, they immediately provided emergency care.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said two ambulances, three paramedic officers, HART paramedics, a MERIT trauma team and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity attended. Ambulance medics worked rapidly to administer advanced life support to both children. Tragically, they were both confirmed dead a short time later.

Ongoing Investigation

"Our thoughts are with the children's loved ones and all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident," West Midlands Police stated. Police have cordoned off the scene as officers work with emergency service colleagues. This is to establish the exact circumstances of the fire.

Officers remain at the scene today. West Midlands Police thanked the community for their support with the on-going investigation. The scene is expected to remain in place for some time at the property, which was extensively damaged, as enquiries continue.
