A man has been jailed for murder after deliberately driving into a father in Rednal, West Midlands. Michael Povey, 29, received a life sentence for killing Lee Baker, 28, on Ormscliffe Road.

Lee Baker was tragically killed on 21 July 2025. A car was deliberately driven into him on Ormscliffe Road, Rednal. This occurred at 5:10 pm after an earlier argument with three men.

Michael Povey drove his BMW straight into Lee Baker and his brother. Lee’s brother managed to jump out of the way. Lee Baker suffered traumatic head injuries and was tragically killed.

Povey had mounted the pavement before hitting the front wall of an address on the road. He then ran off into the street to avoid being caught. His lies began as he called 999.

Povey claimed his car had been stolen by a “yob”. He also stated he was “scared to go back around as someone had been hurt”.

Michael Povey, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder on 6 February. He had pled guilty to perverting the course of public justice.

Povey appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (10 April). He was sentenced to a life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 20 years.

Family Tribute

In tribute to Lee, his family said: “We know Lee has gone and we would love to see him or hold him just one more time, but we can’t. He has been taken from us forever. He will be missed and loved forever.”
