
A woman has been charged with manslaughter following an incident at Birmingham New Street railway station in November 2024 which led to the death of an 87-year-old woman. Charlie Lane, 26, of Marlborough Road, Gloucester, was charged on 1 April with Manslaughter and Racially Aggravated Public Order.
Officers were called to the concourse of Birmingham New Street railway station on the morning of 19 November 2024 after reports of an assault. Dorothy Chiles, aged 87, was discovered at the station with serious injuries and was subsequently taken to a local hospital. She underwent surgery for a fractured hip and was discharged on 2 December 2024. Sadly, Ms Chiles died from her injuries at home on 27 December.
Ms Lane has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on 30 April.
