A 57-year-old man has been jailed for more than four years following a Northamptonshire Police investigation into historical and recent child sex offences.
Darren James Wood appeared at Northampton Crown Court where he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison. He had previously pleaded guilty in November to all 11 offences brought against him, including six counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, two counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, and three counts of sexual assault on a female.
The court heard that Wood's offending occurred across two distinct periods. Between 1995 and 2000, he sexually assaulted a girl on numerous occasions. Later, between 2013 and 2019, he repeatedly sexually assaulted a second girl.
The offences were reported to police in 2024 by both victims, who are now women. Following their reports, a detailed investigation was launched, leading to the charges against Wood.
Police Statement Detective Constable Samuel Bennett, the lead investigator, praised the victims for their courage in coming forward to report the abuse.
He said: “Although nothing can ever erase the awful experiences these women went through at the hands of Darren Wood, I hope the conclusion of this case provides them with a sense of justice. They have been through so much and this result is a testament to their bravery and strength."
DC Bennett added that the force remains committed to handling such reports with the utmost seriousness to provide reassurance to local communities.
