Stockton man jailed for three years after sexually assaulting teenage girl

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for more than three years after targeting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Stockton.

Faisul Baruud, who was known locally as "Jamal," appeared at Teesside Crown Court today, Friday 20 March 2026. He was sentenced to three years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault at an earlier hearing.

Discovery and Safeguarding

The court heard that police officers intercepted Baruud as he travelled through Stockton town centre with the child at 1:45 am on Wednesday 15 January 2025. Officers noted the child was extremely intoxicated and unable to identify herself or her location.

She was immediately taken to hospital, where medical tests confirmed the presence of alcohol and drugs, including cocaine and temazepam, in her system. Baruud was arrested at the scene and subsequently remanded in custody.

Grooming and Exploitation

The investigation revealed that Baruud targeted the girl through a process of grooming. He used flattery and the promise of romantic interest to isolate her, often driving her and other girls to his flat on Durham Road in a Range Rover.

While the child was intoxicated, Baruud sexually assaulted her. Detective Sergeant Peter Howes stated that Baruud had deliberately targeted a vulnerable girl with the sole purpose of assault, using alcohol, drugs, and takeaway food to gain her trust within days of meeting her.

Sentencing and Restrictions

In addition to his custodial sentence, Baruud will be subject to the following restrictions:

Inclusion on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

A five-year restraining order.

Detective Sergeant Howes praised the "courage and bravery" of the victim throughout the court process and commended the officers whose "instinct" led to the child being removed from the vehicle and properly safeguarded.
