A 36-year-old man from Beccles has been jailed for more than two years after pleading guilty to making indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Benjamin Linard, of Old Mill Terraces, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 6 March 2026. He was sentenced to a total of 28 months’ imprisonment. The court also ordered the destruction of his mobile phone and imposed a revised indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Linard, a registered sex offender with previous convictions from 2017, was being managed by the Public Protection Unit following a prior prison sentence. He was arrested on 6 February 2025 after reports emerged that he had been accessing illicit material on his phone.
Upon his arrest, police seized his device for forensic examination. Analysis uncovered:
Evidence of deleted internet searches related to indecent images of children
Following the investigation, Linard was charged in October 2025.
Public Protection Unit Officer Jenna Brock, the officer in charge of the case, stated that the new court order would allow police to monitor Linard’s online behaviour for 10 years following his eventual release.
"Linard has demonstrated that he has a relentless sexual interest in children and cannot be trusted to behave lawfully," Officer Brock said. "Suffolk Constabulary is committed to using every legal and investigative tool available to prevent further harm, protect vulnerable children, and bring offenders of criminality against children to justice."
