WHO: Argos, owned by J Sainsbury plc.
WHAT: Building a new online marketplace capability powered by Mirakl technology.
WHERE: Available via the Argos website and mobile app across the UK.
WHEN: Implementation scheduled within the next 12 months.
WHY: To increase customer choice and frequency of spend by adding thousands of third-party products.
The upcoming Argos online marketplace in 2026 will allow customers to shop more brands in one place.
Argos has confirmed it is building a new digital marketplace to expand its product selection beyond its current 60,000 lines.
The platform will invite curated third-party partners to sell directly to customers via the Argos website.
This move follows a successful period for "supplier-fulfilled" sales, which recently grew by 24 per cent.
The new marketplace is part of the "Next Level Sainsbury’s" strategy to drive growth. By hosting external brands, Argos aims to become a one-stop-shop for home, toys, and electricals. Management believes this will help rival giants like Amazon and eBay by leveraging Argos's massive online traffic.
Benefits for Shoppers and Future Services
Shoppers will see an "even wider range of products" that complement the existing core categories.
The retailer will maintain its focus on value and reliability while offering new, diverse brands.
Sainsbury’s chief strategy officer Graham Biggart stated the move reflects a clear demand for greater convenience.
Alongside the marketplace, Argos is investing in "Argos Pay," a new flexible credit offer. A new annual fulfilment pass, "Argos Plus," is also launching for £40 per year. This pass will provide customers with unlimited same-day and next-day deliveries for 12 months.
With over one billion website visits annually, Argos is already a digital leader in the UK. The marketplace allows the business to expand without the costs of holding extra physical stock. Detailed applications for brands wanting to sell on the new platform are now officially open.
