Sister demands £5,000 from sibling for wedding, sparking family feud

A 23-year-old woman has claimed she is being "gaslit" by her entire family after her older sister demanded she hand over £5,000 to fund a dream wedding venue.

An 'investment' in happiness

The row broke out after the bride-to-be, 30, discovered her chosen venue was over budget and reportedly told her younger sister that, because she is single and childless, she should cover the difference.

Detailing the ordeal on Reddit, the younger sibling revealed her sister described the massive cash injection as "an investment in our family's happiness."

Despite the bride's fiancé reportedly being wealthy and driving a "brand new BMW," the family has turned on the 23-year-old for wanting to keep her savings for a house deposit.

Branded a 'monster'

The situation escalated when the mother of the pair called to label the younger daughter "selfish," claiming she was going to "ruin" her sister's big day.

The bride has since taken to social media to post passive-aggressive messages about "true colours," while aunts have reportedly "blown up" the family group chat to pressure the woman into paying.

The younger sister has now threatened to boycott the June wedding entirely if the financial demands continue, leading to her being labelled a "monster" by relatives.

Public outcry

Online commenters have been quick to side with the younger sibling, with many mocking the logic that a 23-year-old is in a "prime position" to give away thousands for no reason.

One user suggested: "Tell the ones blowing up the group chat they’re more than welcome to volunteer the 5K themselves."

Others questioned the fiancé's role in the drama, with one person noting: "Time to call you futur FIL (father-in-law) to ask him why you should pay for his son wedding."
